12th Conference Environmental Protection and Energy, December 6th 2024

Record-Breaking Numbers and Vital Conversations at EPAE 2024

The 12th International Conference on Environmental Protection & Energy (EPAE 2024), hosted on December 6th at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Energy at the Silesian University of Technology, proved to be an extraordinary event. This year’s edition set new records with over 300 participants and an impressive showcase of nearly 250 presentations and 60 posters.

Global Participation and Innovative Dialogue

EPAE 2024 attracted attendees from around the world, including prominent representatives of academia and industry. The event also engaged a significant number of young professionals and students passionate about environmental protection and energy transformation.

With a diverse mix of cutting-edge research results, innovative ideas, and impactful discussions, the conference became a melting pot of collaboration and inspiration.

Empowering Young Scientists

“This conference is created by young scientists for young scientists. We aim to empower them with opportunities to present their research and gain experience in organizing large-scale events,” explained Prof. Krzysztof Pikoń, Chair of the Organizing Committee. “Our themes cover environmental protection, energy transition, and achieving climate goals through circular economy strategies. This year, we also included experienced researchers to foster a greater exchange of ideas.”

Many of the presentations delivered by young scientists will not only feature in the traditional conference book but also appear in prestigious, high-impact journals.

Key Highlights and Discussions

The conference was honored by the participation of Prof. Marek Pawełczyk, Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, and Prof. Sebastian Werle, Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation.

Keynote Panels:

The Deposit Return System: Discussed as a pivotal element of circular economy, set to launch in Poland in October 2025. Experts highlighted the societal challenges and infrastructural requirements of implementing this system.
Healthcare and Environmental Protection: Focused on how the healthcare sector can contribute to sustainability. Moderated by Dr. Agnieszka Sznyk, the discussion highlighted innovative practices like sustainable hospital construction and medical waste management.

A Sustainable Future for EPAE

The conference emphasized a commitment to sustainability. Initiatives included the elimination of single-use plastics, the use of compostable materials, and the symbolic planting of oxytree saplings to demonstrate circular economy principles.

“We envision a fully circular EPAE in the future,” shared Prof. Pikoń, highlighting the event’s alignment with global environmental goals.

Acknowledgment and Vision for Growth

Prof. Ewa Brągoszewska, Vice-Chair of the Organizing Committee, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all contributors: “This edition was a tremendous challenge requiring the dedication of many individuals. Thanks to their hard work, EPAE 2024 became a truly inspiring and exceptional event.”

The event continues to grow, not only in scale but also in its ability to foster meaningful collaborations and drive innovative solutions. EPAE has become a launchpad for young scientists, paving the way for future leaders in research and industry.
